Schwab’s rural Kansas plan refocuses efforts to revitalize, grow communities
GARDEN CITY (March 9) — Kansas Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Schwab today outlined his proposals for revitalizing rural communities by reorienting the state’s commerce priorities to focus on growing manufacturing and agriculture-related businesses.
The Schwab JEANS plan — Jobs, Education, Agriculture, Networking and Sustainability — aims to revitalize rural communities across Kansas that have experienced loss of population and diminished economic opportunities over the past several decades. By changing the focus of state agencies and the Governor’s office, Schwab’s proposals would realign state priorities to create opportunities for future generations.
“I grew up in Great Bend and every time I go home one thing is clear: people are struggling to maintain the rural way of life,” Schwab said. “My proposals will provide real opportunities for state government to partner with rural Kansas to give them the tools they need to slow this decline and begin reversing the trend.”
Schwab launched a four-day, 13-community tour in Garden City where he will meet with local education, agriculture, and community leaders about his proposals and how the state can assist with revitalization.
“This is not just a rural issue. This is a Kansas issue. It is time to have a governor who will address these issues,” Schwab said. “We must create real opportunities for young adults to raise a family and have prosperity in their community.”
